Calaveras School District Fined
A Mother Lode School District and attorneys representing it have been fined $5,000 by a federal judge after the attorneys allegedly lied, harrassed a plaintiff and dragged out a case.
The attorneys and Calaveras County´s Bret Harte Union High School District were penalized with the fines by U.S. Court Judge Oliver Wanger in Fresno yesterday. The judge also ordered the attorneys involved in the case to instigate ethics training at their law firms. The attorneys represented the school district in a lawsuit filed by the parents of a special needs student in 1997. The student, now 23 years old, was ultimately awarded tutoring services, vocational assessments and counseling from the school district.
