High-Speed Rail System To Cost Billions

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA– California’s high-speed rail system could cost nearly $100 billion.

The Associated Press reports that the new business plan revealed today by the California High-Speed Rail Authority, shows that the project would be manageable if funded over a 20-year construction period.

The plan also predicts estimated ridership figures would make the system profitable and that new freeways and airport expansions would end up costing more.

The first 130-mile segment would create about 100,000 jobs in the Central Valley. Building the entire high speed rail system would also generate about 1 million jobs.

The report estimates the actual cost at $98.5 billion if the route between San Francisco and Anaheim is completed by 2033.
