San Andreas CHP To Crack Down With "Click It Or Ticket" Campaign

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 - 06:00 AM
CHP San Andreas based Officer Jaime "Cas" Castillo.

San Andreas, CA -- San Andreas CHP officers are cracking down for the remainder of this month on those who fail to "buckle up."

Officers will be aggressively enforcing the state's occupant protection laws as part of California's 2008 Click It Or Ticket mobilization taking place May 19-June 1. The campaign relies on heavy enforcement and public education as to means to help California achieve the highest seat belt use rate in the county. California currently has the nation's fourth highest seat belt use rate at 94.6 percent.

Unfortunately the seat belt usage rate for teenagers was only 88.9 percent a year ago so Officer Jaime Castillo says special attention will be paid to teenage drivers during the remaining days of the current campaign.

Calaveras County has already experienced four traffic related fatalities this year. The CHP believes that had 33 year old Donald James Hollingsworth of Mokelumne Hill and 72 year old Mary Jane Poulk of Wallace been wearing their seatbelts on the dates of January 5th and April 26th respectively, they would be alive today.

And a reminder that from 6pm Friday until Monday midnight, the CHP will be conducting a Maximum Enforcement Period for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
