Learn about some of the local wildlife here, and be prepared if you see a local bear or mountain lion. Have a relaxing day at a lake, in a fishing boat, kayak, or houseboat, or cut through the water on water skis!
Many locals explore the area from an off highway vehicle (such as an ATV, rock crawler or snowmobile.)
Explore some of the tallest the peaks, domes and passes in California at more than 9,000 feet above sea level. In the summer, go rafting down the Wild and Scenic Tuolumne river, ride a mountain bike along the Glory Hole Recreational Trail or load up a packhorse with your equipment and hike into the wilderness!
The Sierra Nevada foothills rarely get snow below 2,500 feet. In the winter plenty of snow above 5,000 feet can offer a whole new way to enjoy the area. For winter community events be sure to check our community calendar. We also have a list of the biggest annual events in the area.
Spend a day exploring the downtown shops and uncover stylish salons, one-of-a-kind jewelry, clothing, collectibles, art, historical memorabilia and of course souvenirs. Be sure to leave room in your suitcase for new treasures. For the full list stores in our area see antiques or retail stores in our yellow pages.
