Mother Lode Recreation Guide
From fishing or panning for gold to shopping for antiques, the Mother Lode is full of opportunities to do something fun. Staycation at home and enjoy the activities that are already close to you. Learn about some of the local wildlife here, and be prepared if you see a local bear or mountain lion.
Load up a backpack with our helpful backpacking list or set up a tent at one of several campgrounds. Many locals explore the area from an off highway vehicle (such as an ATV, rock crawler or snowmobile.)
Explore some of the tallest the peaks, domes and passes in California at more than 9,000 feet above sea level. Go rafting on the Wild and Scenic Tuolumne river, or load up a packhorse and hike into the wilderness!

Spend a day exploring indoors at the local casinos, the downtown shops; stylish salons, one-of-a-kind jewelry, clothing, collectibles, art, historical memorabilia and of course souvenirs stores.
