Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department is investigating the origin of several counterfeit bills after an arrest Wednesday.

Reports indicate last week, an employee at a local gas station received a $100 bill in exchange for the purchase of beer and gasoline.

The bill was later found to be counterfeit. Later in the week a State Parole Agent, reviewing store surveillance tapes, recognized one of the subjects involved in passing the bill.

Sheriff´s deputies were able to positively identify Christy Spears as being the person who actually passed the bill.

On Wednesday, deputies located, interviewed and arrested Spears and at the time of arrest, Spears had a counterfeit $20 bill in her possession. The investigation into the origin of the bills is continuing.
