Sonora Resident Drowns In Clavey River

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — 43 year old Anthony Christopher Hinds of Sonora drowned in the Clavey River in an area known as God´s Bath early Saturday evening.

Lt. Dan Bressler of the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department reported that Hinds and his 20 year old son, Shaun, also of Sonora had been swimming in the river. Hinds was swimming toward the God´s Bath area and was apparently caught up in the currents of the river. After going over some falls he was not seen again.

Rescuers from Calaveras County´s Swift Water rescue team responded Saturday evening to initiate the search, but Hinds was not found. Sunday morning rescuers from the Tuolumne County´s Search and Rescue team and a helicopter crew responded. Later in the morning Hinds´ body was recovered in the area of the waterfall where he was last seen.

His body was removed by the helicopter and subsequently transported to a local funeral home.
