Yosemite, Ca — The cables allowing trail access to the summit of Half Dome are now in place for the season.
The Half Dome hike is 17 miles round trip, and reaches an elevation of 8,800 ft. The hike passes areas such as Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall and Half Dome itself. The series of metal cables along the shoulder of the dome are designed to help hikers reach the summit.
“People need to realize that this is a strenuous hike,” says Yosemite National Park Spokesperson Scott Gediman. It is very easy to become dehydrated or lose your footing, so people should not attempt this hike lightly.”
