Audit Finds Building Department Lacking
San Andreas, CA — A preliminary look at an audit of the Calaveras County Building Department has revealed that poor construction may have been approved in the past.
JAS Pacific, a consulting firm hired to audit the department, says while reviewing department files, it discovered that minimum fire and life safety requirements of the building code had been overruled or waived.
Some of the items omitted include tempered glass for bathrooms, arc fault circuit interrupters and minimum rise and headroom for stairways.
Additionally, one firm hired to check plans had returned plans approved but with significant errors.
The report also says prior to the audit, several files had their contents removed.
