Attempted Car Jacking Near Downtown Sonora
Sonora, Ca — Wednesday evening at 8:22pm, an attempted carjacking was reported in the area of Gold and Barretta Streets near downtown Sonora.
Lt. Mark Stinson with the Sonora Police Department says that the victim told officers that she was traveling east on Gold St. when a suspect physically ran into the left front corner of her vehicle. When the driver stopped to check on the subject, the male started grabbing her hair and telling her that he wanted her car.
Stinson says the victim was able to fight of the attacker, escape to her car, and drive away. She sustained bruises and red marks from the assault, and was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center for an evaluation.
The suspect is described as a white male, late teens or early twenties, and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt reading ?Nor Cal.? He was also wearing dark colored shorts. It is believed that he has fresh scratch marks on his face and arms. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sonora PD at 532-8141.
