San Andreas, CA — Work continues on finalizing a 2009-10 Calaveras County fiscal budget.
According to CAO Bob Lawton, “It’s difficult to say at this point where we’re going to end up, however the Board is making every effort possible to close this budget and avoid layoffs. We’ve been in discussion with the bargaining units, we know what our financial needs are, what our financial position is and we are working hard to find ways for all employees whether they’re elected officials, managers or line staff to be able to share the burden this year.”
Lawton added that the budget process remains tenuous because the state has yet to finalize its budget and that will have a direct effect on all of California’s 58 counties.
By law all counties must have their tenative budgets completed by July 20.
