Use Caution Around Lakes And Streams

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Given the holiday weekend and warmer temperatures, many people may be looking for a river or stream to cool off when recreating outside.

Officials are warning that even though the water is inviting, it may be very cold and dangerously fast.

“This time of year, runoff conditions exist,” says Pat Kaunert with the Stanislaus National Forest. “Our rivers are running deep, swift and cold. We want people to use extra caution.”

Just this past Monday a 31 year old German tourist Katrin Lehman fell and was swept away by the Merced River in Yosemite.
