Calaveras Visitors Center Talks Stall

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — There is still not an agreement in place for the Calaveras County Visitors Center.

The Calaveras Visitors Bureau has been using an office owned by the City of Angels Camp rent free since 2003, and the City has decided to start charging rent due to budget restraints.

The issue was discussed at this week’s Angels Camp City Council meeting, and the city reports that discussion will pick at the Council meeting in two weeks. The Calaveras Visitors Bureau has stated that it is okay with paying the proposed $1,139.40 monthly rent fee, but has concerns about stipulations in the rent agreement. Notably, it requires that Visitors Bureau employees not park in the onsite parking lot or along Main Street. It also makes the Visitors Bureau in charge of replacing indoor light bulbs, and the removal of any onsite graffiti or litter. Those issues could not be worked out at this week’s meeting.
