Law Enforcement Affected By Outage

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – When AT&T phone and internet services went down Sunday it posed challenges for law enforcement.

“We had several issues with being able to contact DMV, so we weren’t able to check license plates or run licenses,” says Sgt. Jeff Wilson, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson. “We also had no internet service, which was a problem throughout much of Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties as I understand it. But as far as I know, no other issues were reported.”

Residents were still able to call 911 to report emergencies throughout the night.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office reports that the outage was caused by a vehicle driving into a power pole on Highway 12 near Haskell Road in the area of Wallace. PG&E and AT&T were contacted, and technicians repaired the damaged fiber optic lines. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was also able to receive incoming 911 calls throughout the night.
