Proposed County Airports Reorganization

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors will discuss on Tuesday whether to reorganize the county’s Airports Department so that it is a division of Public Works.

The move would convert the Airports Director Position into a Deputy Director of Operations within the Public Works Department. The position would oversee Airports, Road Operations and Vehicle Maintenance/Fleet Management. It is one of many reorganizations being looked at by the county designed to streamline government and cut expenses.

Airports Director Jim Thomas has told county staff that he would prefer that the Department stay in its current form, citing concerns over safety and service at both Columbia Airport and Pine Mountain Lake Airport. He has also expressed that he would work as a team player and give the reorganization his best effort if approved.

Tuesday’s Supervisors meeting will begin at 9am at the County Administration Center.
