Black Ice Strikes Again

Sponsored by:

Soulsbyville, CA — Black ice got the best of a 2004 GMC Yukon Sunday morning.

50 year old Timothy Furphy of Pleasanton was eastbound on Hwy 108 just past the Mono Vista turnoff when his vehicle hit a patch of black ice. Traveling at an estimated speed of 65 mph Furphy lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and hit an embankment. The Yukon then rolled onto its side.

The Tuolumne County Fire Department was forced to use the jaws-of-life to extricate at least one of the passengers.

Riding with Furphy was 18 year old Breanna Furphy of Pleasanton, 17 year old Kayla Furphy of Pleasanton and 16 year old Jessie Madsen of San Ramon. The most serious injuries: Breanna Furphy suffered a broken ankle and Jessie Madsen a broken wrist.

All the occupants were wearing their seat belts.
