Weapons Charges Arrest In Murphys

Sponsored by:

Murphys, CA — Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of fighting around Highway 4 and Tanner Street on Monday around 6pm.

Deputies say they talked with two alleged victims, Kenneth Peterson of Murphys and a juvenile female. They say they asked, 48 year old, Glenn Johnson of Angels Camp to remove his cattle from the 400 block of East Highway 4.

While meeting on the shoulder of Highway 4, a fist fight broke out between them. Deputies report, during the fight, Johnson jumped in his vehicle, backed up, and drove towards the two victims in an attempt to run them over. They say he came within inches of them. Peterson was able to dodge the vehicle by jumping over a fence, and the female juvenile was able to hide behind a telephone pole. Johnson then fled the scene. Neither victim was injured.

Deputies went to Johnson’s home in the 600 block of Stanislaus Avenue, in Angels Camp. While at the front door a passerby told deputies a man had just ran from the back of the house towards Mark Twain Elementary School. The deputies were able to track down the fleeing man, who was identified as Johnson. He was taken into custody and booked into the Calaveras County jail without further incident.

Deputies say Johnson admitted there was a mutual fight between the two men, but denied trying to run them over with his vehicle.

Johnson was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon other than a Firearm.
