Slick Roads And Alcohol Lead To Crashes

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — The CHP reports the combination of wet roadway conditions and alcohol contributed to a pair of crashes yesterday in Calaveras County that resulted in major injuries.

The first occurred at 3:45pm along Sunset Street near Russells Road in San Andreas. The CHP reports that 39-year-old RJ Vanderwoude of San Andreas lost control of his 1984 Honda Motorcycle and was ejected from the bike. He was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto to treat major injuries. He was later cited by the CHP for driving under the influence.

At 6:35pm, on Highway 12 west of Lime Creek Road, 31-year-old Diana Romero of Valley Springs was in the process of passing a vehicle in her 2007 Lexus and collided head-on with a 2002 Jeep driven by 40-year-old Amy Black of Columbia. It was raining heavily at the time of the incident. Romero, and two passengers in her vehicle, 26-year-old Zofia Ajemian of North Dakota and 19-year-old Vida Crofutt of Valley Springs, were transported to Mark Twain Medical Center to treat “moderate injuries.” Black was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center to treat “major injuries.” Romero was later cited for DUI.
