New Assistant Tuolumne County D.A. Named

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – Eric Hovatter is a familiar name in the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s office, having worked there for more than a decade.

District Attorney Laura Kreig announced the promotion of Hovatter to the county’s Assistant District Attorney position on Tuesday. D.A. Krieg calls the promotion well-deserved, saying, “He [Hovatter] is very, very passionate. He serves the people of Tuolumne County…especially elderly people. He treats them with respect and dignity and is passionate in protecting them. I think that passion carries over to any kind of case Eric handles.”

Hovatter began working in the D.A.’s office in 2000 as a Deputy District Attorney, handling all of the elder abuse cases, according to the D.A.’s office, who adds he has also tried over 250 jury trials. Kreig states that, in working with Hovatter over the past eleven years, “He is willing to go to trial and he’s willing to let the citizens of Tuolumne County, as jurors, decide tough cases, sometimes.”

In addition to Krieg, Hovatter has served under District Attorneys Tim Clancy, Donald Segerstrom and Mike Knowles.  He also teaches trial advocacy and felony prosecutions for the California District Attorneys Association. Hovatter started his career in Ventura as a prosecutor in 1994. His annual salary is $82,211.64.
