Most State Environmental Groups Support Forest Plan
The Wilderness Society has joined most environmental groups in the state with their support of Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth´s approval of the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan.
The timber industry would like bigger trees to be included in the forest thinning plan, stating the danger of crown fires in old growth forests. The Society´s position is that by removing more smaller trees and leaving the large ones, flames won´t reach the tops of the old giants, reducing the fire danger.
The Department of Agriculture is reviewing Bosworth´s decision and will have an answer on the plan December 4th.
