New Tough Rules For Tahoe Homes

Sponsored by:

Attempts at compromise have failed, so the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has enacted tough rules aimed at lessening the visual impact of homes and buildings on the lake´s scenic beauty.

The new regulations will stop the massive new home projects that planners believe degrade the lake´s shoreline and will help bring the homes that some consider eyesores into compliance.

The scenic regulations, which will take effect in 60 days, create an evaluation system for new construction and alterations to existing homes that will limit the visibility of the shoreline projects.

The goal is to blend with or mimic the natural landscape to essentially camouflage the homes and buildings using earth-tone paints, trees, shrubs, low-reflective windows and creative architecture.
