Foul-smelling Package Forces Evacuation
About 60 employees were evacuated from the offices of a Marysville newspaper after a suspicious envelope with a foul odor was delivered.
Several employees at the Appeal-Democrat newspaper complained of burning eyes, shaking and nausea after coming into contact with the envelope. Newspaper reporter Harold Kruger says the envelope was wired shut and dropped through a mail slot.
After examining the envelope, officials told the newspaper´s staff that the envelope may have been sealed with an epoxy that caused some people to have a reaction.
The staff was ordered to leave around 2 p.m. and were allowed to return about 90 minutes later.
