Governor Davis is transferring California´s AMBER Alert System from his Office of Emergency Services to the California Highway Patrol.
He says the new system needs to be overseen by one agency – while the emergency services office manages a variety of programs.
Davis and other officials say they still need to work some of the bugs out of the system designed to quickly alert police, the news media, and the public when a child is abducted.
But the system already has been credited with helping save several children kidnapped since it was put in place less than a month ago.
