New SoCal Fire Raises Fears
Firefighters trying to contain a 61,000 acre wildfire east of San Diego are turning some of the attention to a smaller nearby fire that is threatening scores of homes. The Peak Fire quickly scorched 300 acres after it broke out at around eleven yesterday morning. Some 60 homes are threatened. Mandatory and voluntary evacuations were ordered for parts of Pine Hills, North Peak and a campsite. There´s no estimate on containment. The Pines fire has burned about more than 61,000 acres since it began near the town of Julian. It was sparked when National Guard helicopter looking for marijuana plants clipped a power line.
