Lockyer Continues To Go After Utility Companies
California Attorney General Bill Lockyer says he´s likely to file more unfair business practice lawsuits against energy suppliers he thinks overcharged for electricity. But Lockyer said today that, after a year-long investigation, he´s found no criminal wrongdoing by any energy suppliers.
He says he´s discovered possible civil violations of California consumer laws prohibiting overcharging. But the violations carry no prison time. Lockyer´s disclosure comes a week after the state´s top law enforcement official sued Pacific Gas and Electric Corporation, the parent to the Pacific Gas and Electric utility.
Lockyer says the company siphoned billions of dollars from its utility, forcing it to seek federal bankruptcy protection.
