Bustamante Hopes Recall Election´s A Go

Sponsored by:

California´s lieutenant governor, the most prominent Democrat running to succeed Gray Davis in the state´s recall campaign, says he hopes the election is held October seventh.

The conventional wisdom holds that a delay in the election until the March primary would help Davis retain his job. But even Davis says he´s ´not wild´ about a potential delay.

Bustamante, whose slogan is “No on recall, yes on Bustamante,” says people are starting to get “a little bit of recall fatigue.” The lieutenant governor says his preference is to “get on with the election on the date that it is.”

A federal appeals court is weighing arguments on whether to reconsider an earlier ruling that delayed the election based on some counties´ plans to use punch-card voting machines. A decision on re-hearing the case is expected no earlier than tomorrow.
