State Lawmakers Back To Work

Sponsored by:

California legislators return from an abbreviated summer recess today. Republicans expect Democrats will use the end of the session to push through bills designed to keep Governor Davis in office, including the car tax swap.

Assembly Minority Leader Dave Cox predicts “a lot of shenanigans on the floor in the last 30 days.”

Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson says he´ll do everything he can to keep lawmakers focused on the key issues already scheduled for votes. Breaking his usual practice, Davis already has announced he will sign a number of bills, including measures to protect access to abortion and provide drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants.
