Officials Still Looking For Mother Lode Shuttle Debris

Sponsored by:

Residents in 24 Northern California counties are being asked to report any material that might have fallen from the space shuttle Columbia as it broke up last month. Farmers, foresters, and landowners from California to New Mexico are asked to report suspected debris from the February first disaster that killed the seven astronauts aboard.

Photos indicate the shuttle may have begun disintegrating over the western United States. But so far none of the hundreds of reported debris sightings west of Texas have been connected to the shuttle.

Suspected debris should not be handled and NASA asks that anyone finding such questionable objects report them to the agency at its toll-free number: 866-446-6603.
