Flu Vaccine Available For All Statewide Monday

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Flu vaccines will be available to all Californians starting Monday. Health officials say there are two methods of vaccination.

One is the traditional flu shot that is produced from inactivated flu viral strains. The second is a nasal spray that is called FluMist, which is a weakened live virus. Flu vaccines are recommended in October and November at the start of the flu season, which can last until May.

On average five to 20 percent of the population in the United States gets the flu each year. More than 200,000 people require hospitalization, and 36,000 people die from the disease every year.
