Sonora, CA — New research from AAA finds that thousands of car fires each year could be prevented with regular maintenance and repairs.
The National Fire Protection Association found that more than two-thirds of highway vehicle fires result from mechanical or electrical failures or malfunctions.
AAA reminds drivers to pull to the side of the road and turn off the ignition if a fire starts in their vehicle. Another tip AAA says will keep people safe is making sure everyone gets out and far away from the vehicle.
Fire officials say carefully following manufacturers´ maintenance schedules will reduce the risk of fires and other problems.
