Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County YES Partnership is offering grants to community organizations in an effort to curb drug abuse and child abuse in the county.
The so-called “mini grants” amount to $2,000 each and are available to schools, churches and similar organizations that work with kids.
District Attorney and grant committee member Donald Segerstrom says the money was made available by the Department of Justice Safe Communities Grant set up to fight drug and alcohol abuse among the nation´s youth.
He says a total amount of $20,000 was made available to Tuolumne County. Segerstrom says the money can be used for such activities as bringing in guest speakers, paying for literature and education or sponsoring an event.
The YES Partnership is comprised of a variety of public and private agencies and community groups that meet monthly.
The application deadline for grants is November 1st.
