CDF Says Calaveras Grass Fires Intentionally Set

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — CDF investigators say two fires that burned a combined total of 35 acres of grassland and vegetation in Calaveras County late Wednesday afternoon were intentionally set.

CDF Chief Richard Imlach says a fire that scorched 30 acres on Highway 4 at Telegraph Road began at about the same time as a five acre grass fire at Vista Point.

Firefighters deployed nine engines along with two water tenders and two bulldozers.

Also called out were one CDF air attack, one CDF helicopter and four air tankers.

Authorities say two hand crews from Baseline Conservation Camp were dispatched to the blaze.
