Ranchers And Rain in The Mother Lode

Sponsored by:

Heavy winter rains have eased some concerns for Mother Lode ranchers.

Cattlemen say stock ponds and pastures are showing a remarkable recovery after previous dry years.

Rancher Rob Frost says abundant grass growth triggered by lots of precipitation bodes well for the food supply for cattle and sheep.

“We are in good shape as far as feed and water go this year. The weather has caused some damage, but nothing we can´t handle.”

In Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties, ranchers say severe winter weather has caused some minor damage to fences and roads and has led to some erosion of pasture land.
