A Partridge In A Yosemite Park Tree?

Sponsored by:

Yosemite, CA – Bring your binoculars, field guide, lunch, plenty of warm clothes, and sturdy shoes to the park on Sunday, December 16th for Yosemite National Park’s 113th Annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC). Over the past 81 years Yosemite volunteers for the CBC have contributed over 90,000 observations and photos to this conservation effort. Also, this year the National Audubon Society’s new online guide of American Birds will do a featured article on the count. Park Officials say this important event helps biologists across the country assess population trends of birds.

More than 40 people participated in the event last year. They counted and identified 2,584 birds of 70 species in the park. The highlights; sightings of two Bald Eagles, a Northern Saw-whet Owl, a Williamson’s Sapsucker, five Pileated Woodpeckers, and a California Thrasher.

If you are interested in volunteering call Yosemite CBC organizer Sarah Stock at 209-379-1435 or email her at sarah_stock@nps.gov.
