From May 10-13 Aloft Art Gallery will honor Stephanie Rose Long, who was a long-time artist at the gallery, with an art show in remembrance that features over 30 pieces of western-themed art. Long’s work will be displayed in both of the large windows at Aloft for the Motherlode Roundup weekend. Aloft is located at 105 S. Washington Street in downtown Sonora. Saturday the gallery will open after the parade and will stay open for Second Saturday evening, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. On all other dates the gallery will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All work will sell at reduced prices, from 25% to 35% off. The work includes hand-painted designer handbags, jewelry, pastel and pencil art, and a large selection of prints, sizes of the artwork varies from small to large and the majority are western-themed.

Stephanie grew up in Florida and Vermont, riding, drawing and loving horses. She started taking art classes at eight years old and horses were her favorite subject. Stephanie received her B.A. in Design and Photography and moved to San Francisco to start doing freelance work. In 1992 she moved to Nevada to help train cutting horses and both the horses and the cows were an inspiration to her future artwork. She worked mainly in soft pastel and believed in making a bold statement of a subtle point, striving to bring attention to the little things in the artwork.

After moving to Tuolumne County she continued to create work in western art, depicting the people, animals and landscapes of the ranching world. All of her images and other artwork are from her own photography and interaction with people she had met or places she had been. In Tuolumne County she started doing pet portraits by commission as well as painted handbags and jewelry made to order.
