GOP Looking To Recall Davis

Sponsored by:

A recall effort against Governor Gray Davis has been backed by the California Republican Party´s executive committee. But former secretary of state Bill Jones says he doesn´t think it´s a good idea for his fellow Republicans to be out in front pushing for a voter recall. The move against the Democratic governor arose because of his handling of the energy crisis and the state´s massive budget deficit.

Jones said of the resolution: “I don´t want this to look like a Republican project, when in fact it´s not.” Outgoing state Republican Party Chairman Shawn Steel pushed the resolution to back a recall of Davis during a state GOP executive committee meeting yesterday in Sacramento. Delegates to the California Republican convention could vote on the recall resolution this weekend.
