Trash Collected Across Sierra

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — 43 volunteers helped pick up 7,100 lbs. of trash in Tuolumne County as part of the recent Great Sierra River Cleanup.

It was part of a statewide effort that saw 4,500 volunteers pick up 151 tons of trash and recyclables in and around waterways along the Sierra Nevada. The event was organized by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and supported by numerous local agencies like T.U.D., Tuolumne County Resource Conservation District, Tuolumne River Trust, Stanislaus National Forest, Tuolumne County Master Gardeners and the Tuolumne County Division of Solid Waste.

“There were a number of interesting things found, like 75 tires, a huge inflatable swimming pool, exercise equipment and a vacuum cleaner,” says Patrick Koepele of the Tuolumne River Trust.

The event was held this past Saturday.
