Hot Enough Weather To Hit A New Record?
Sonora, CA — As fire activity surges in the Mother Lode and across the state, weather forecasters are also noting close to record-breaking temperatures in the region this week.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)-Sacramento indicated on Thursday it was possible that Wednesday temperatures in Modesto, initially recorded at 107 degrees, if officially confirmed, would tie the record for the date set back in 1933.
According to forecaster Travis Wilson the observed temperature recorded Wednesday in Sonora of 103 was four degrees short of the maximum temperature record of 107 set back in 1975. However, if the mercury reaches 105 Thursday, it will at least create a tie for the hottest day recorded for the date, which was previously hit back in 1934.
Earlier this week, local governments issued a heat advisory, ahead of triple-digit temperatures expected across the Mother Lode into the weekend. Details, as reported here, include a list of air-conditioned public government buildings where people in need may go to cool off during the day. Beyond avoiding the extreme heat, health experts warn folks to keep hydrated and be keenly aware of heat illness signs such as excessive sweating, cramps, headache, nausea and dizziness.
