Lowes Project Still On Hold Until Lawsuit In May

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The attorney for the City of Sonora is preparing a defense to a lawsuit filed by the group Citizens For Responsible Growth pertaining to a proposed Lowes home Improvement Center.

City Administrator Greg Applegate says the hearing date is scheduled for May 1st. He says it is not a jury trial; it is a hearing where both attorneys make their case to a judge.

The suit was filed to contest approval of the Lowes project by the City Planning Commission. That decision was appealed to the City Council, which upheld the commission´s action.

Jim Todd with the development company California Gold says everything is on hold until the lawsuit is over. The new store is slated for construction at the corner of Sanguinetti and Old Wards Ferry Roads.
