Calaveras Group Offers Scholarship To Juniors

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA– Calaveras County Juniors will have an opportunity to participate in the Leadership Calaveras program.

Members of the Our Children Our Community (OCOC) group say it is a great opportunity to get a unique learning experience outside of the classroom. Organizers are working to educate youth to build a stronger community.

The groups´ main goal is to help shape and mentor leaders throughout the county. They will be awarding one scholarship available to a Junior student in Calaveras County to attend the Leadership Calaveras program.

The Leadership class will meet once a month for ten months covering a wide range of topics including History and diversity, County Government, Arts and Culture, and Law Enforcement. The scholarship will cover tuition for the program which includes food, transportation during the sessions, graduation dinner and a plaque.

Any high school Junior who lives in Calaveras County can apply for the scholarship. At the end of the ten month program the student leader will automatically become a member of the OCOC coordinating council for the remainder of their senior year. They will be responsible for mentoring the incoming Juniors eligible for the scholarship program.
