Study Says There Are Few Lasting Benefits From Preschool

Sponsored by:

Sacramneto, CA — A new study says that many of the benefits of attending preschool wear off by the time students reach third grade.

The University of California study focuses on non-English-speaking children who went to preschool.

Students did get a head start on literacy, but it only gave them an advantage through the third grade.

The study comes as Hollywood movie director Rob Reiner campaigns to convince voters that all four-year-olds would benefit from a year of free preschool.

The proposal would be funded by a state tax on high earners. Preshool advocates are downplaying the research. They say many studies show the lasting value of preschool.
