Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department Awarded $26,543 A.B.C. Grant

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — For the second consecutive year the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department has been awarded a grant from the State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The $26,543 grant award will provide funding for personnel costs and equipment used in the enforcement of alcohol related problems in the county.

According to Sgt. Tracy Busby during the previous year an emphasis was placed on dealing with problems related to underage alcohol consumption and adults providing alcohol to minors. From the number of citations and or arrests generated during the first year it was determined that Calaveras County has a significant number of adults who will furnish alcohol to minors.

Busby added that for the most part licensees in the county do a very good job of following the terms of their agreements with A.B.C.

The additional funds from A.B.C. will enable the Sheriff´s Department to provide the staffing to continue operations in an effort to reduce associated problems related to alcohol consumption.

Individuals who provide alcohol to minors or purchase alcohol for the express purpose of giving it to a minor could be jailed or fined $1,000 and be cited for 72 hours of community service.
