Calaveras Tourism Remained Strong in 2009
One bright economic highlight in Calaveras County during 2009 remained in the tourism industry.
Lisa Mayo, the Calaveras Visitors Bureau Executive Director, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
Mayo said that tourism numbers for 2009 remained virtually even with those of 2008. Most other counties throughout California showed a decrease.
Although there was a bit of a drop in international tourism, those numbers were made up by an increase in long distance domestic travelers. The largest increase seems to have come from the eastern seaboard and the northeast region of the USA.
Eighty-five percent of all travelers to Calaveras County continue to come from within California, although there was a slight increase in visitors from neighboring states such as Nevada, Oregon and Arizona.
The KVML “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
