The victim of a drowning over the weekend has been identified by officials.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office says that Aaron Tyler was boating on New Melones with a friend when he decided to climb up a rock cliff and jump into the water. Tyler jumped 75 ft. and did not resurface. The Sheriff’s Department’s Search and Rescue Team responded with dive gear at 3:30pm Sunday and located Tyler approximately five hours later. It is not known if Tyler struck an object under water. An autopsy will be conducted today to determine his exact cause of death. The victim was visiting the area from Salinas.
