Absentee Ballots Could Affect City Race

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – The Tuolumne County Elections Office still has around 2,400 absentee ballots to process from Tuesday’s Primary Election.

The ballots either recently arrived in the mail or were dropped off Tuesday at the Election’s Office or polling locations.

In addition there are 297 provisional ballots that were filled out at the polls Tuesday.

The closest race still in question is for Sonora City Council where there are four candidates and two seats open. Matt Hawkins leads with 457 votes, Jim Garaventa is second with 367, Hank Russell has 360 and Gary Anderson has 357.

County Clerk and Auditor Debi Russell says all of the ballots will be processed over the next couple days, and says her office is working diligently to get the job done.

Specifically for District One, which covers the City of Sonora, there are around 300 absentee ballots remaining and 30 provisional ballots.
