Court To Hear Redevelopment Case

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — The California Supreme Court will decide whether Governor Jerry Brown and state lawmakers have the authority to dissolve redevelopment agencies.

Funding for city and county redevelopment agencies was eliminated in order to save $1.7 billion. The Associated Press reports that the state’s high court will hear arguments today about whether the state crossed legal boundaries in ending funding for redevelopment agencies, and setting new standards for cities and counties that hope to maintain them.

The lawsuit was filed by groups representing city and county entities, including the League of California Cities.
