Update: Sonora Trash Fire Contained

Update 9:15 p.m.: Cal Fire reports the fire, which began just before 9 p.m., has been contained and Tuolumne County’s Environmental Health officials have been called to the blaze to determine if there was any hazardous materials that burned. At this posting, the suspect described below is still being sought.

A similar type fire ignited Thursday morning in that area.

Original Post 9 p.m.: Sonora, CA — Firefighters are on the scene of a trash fire on Mono Way and law enforcement is searching the area for a suspect who may have ignited the blaze.

Cal Fire reports the fire is under the bridge on Mono Way across from the Peppery Grill and Bar.  Law enforcement has been called to the scene as there were reports of a man with dark curly hair, wearing dark clothing, running from the flames towards the Tuolumne Road intersection.  Firefighters have a handle on the flames according to Cal Fire.
