DUI Cause Of Deadly Crash

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA – The CHP has arrested a Burson man for vehicular manslaughter in the death of his friend. 23-year-old Samuel Christian Knox was arrested at his home just after one in the afternoon this past Friday.

The arrest stems from the July 5th deadly motorcycle crash which took the life of 23-year-old Matthew Maddox, also of Burson. Maddox, a Sergeant in the Army, was on leave from deployment in Afghanistan. The wreck happened on South Camanche Parkway around 1:30 in the morning. The CHP reports Maddox lost control of his 2007 Harley Davidson and was ejected onto the roadway. Knox was driving his 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle behind Maddox.

CHP Officer Rebecca Myers says, “Mr. Knox, due to his level of intoxication, was unable to avoid a collision with Mr. Maddox, subsequently running over Mr. Maddox with his motorcycle. Mr. Maddox sustained fatal injuries due to this collision.”

Myers confirmed Maddox was also intoxicated at the time of the crash. Knox is charged with Felony Vehicular Manslaughter and Driving Under the Influence. Knox also suffered major injuries in the crash. Click here for an earlier story involving the two men in another accident.
