Sonora, CA — That’s the word from the Red Cross Shelter at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds. Yesterday’s, evacuations had officials looking to possibly open another shelter in the area, but now they say that will not be needed. Right now, the Manzanita, Sierra and John Muir building are open to evacuees.
Red Cross Spokesperson Kathleen Weis says, “Right now, we are doing fabulous. We have had great, fantastic support from the community. We’ve had a steady stream of volunteers come in and supplies. However, if things should scale up and we additional support we will put the word out.”
The fairground shelter is equipped to house around 1,000 evacuees.
