Sponsored by:

The Santa Cruz man charged with felony counts of animal cruelty waived his rights to a preliminary hearing yesterday.

Steven Jackson is accused of beating a Pomeranian puppy to death with a golf club and then threatening the dog´s owners if they pursued charges against him.

Witnesses told prosecutors they saw Jackson hit the dog in the head with a Big Bertha driver golf club at the trailer park where he lived. Jackson then allegedly put the dog in a plastic container, took it to the trailer park office and told them a car ran over it. The dog died shortly thereafter of head injuries.

Jackson faces a felony animal cruelty charge and a second felony count of intimidating witnesses. He is scheduled to be arraigned on November 6th.
