Tuolumne County public works crews got an early start to their day Friday when a speeding pickup destroyed the guardrail on the Phoenix Lake Road bridge over Sullivan Creek.
The California Highway Patrol says 23-year-old William Joshua Reiser of Columbia was going too fast and punched his 2001 GMC pickup through the guardrail about 2:30 a.m. He was arrested for drunk driving.
Tuolumne County Road Supervisor Barry Bynum says crews started work at 3:30 Friday morning and had the guardrail completely rebuilt 11 hours later.
